Where box and papers actually count
A full set matters more on some brands than others. On Patek Philippe and Richard Mille, the certificate is close to expected and its absence is felt clearly in the offer. On Rolex, a full set helps but watches without papers trade constantly and easily.
If you have lost the paperwork, do not delay a sale trying to recover it. Replacement documents generally cannot be issued.

Does polishing really reduce a watch's value?
Yes. Polishing removes metal from the case and rounds the edges. Collectors pay a premium for unpolished examples, and the process cannot be reversed.
Are box and papers worth chasing if I have lost them?
Replacement papers generally cannot be obtained, and the cost of chasing them rarely pays for itself. Sell the watch as it is.
Does an aftermarket diamond setting add value?
Almost never. Factory-set stones add value; aftermarket setting usually reduces it, because it alters an original case or dial.
Do scratches on the bracelet matter?
Less than case condition. Bracelet marks are expected with wear and have a smaller effect on the offer than a polished case or a replaced dial.
