Dubai is one of the best cities in the world in which to sell a luxury watch. The city has a dense concentration of buyers, no sales tax on the transaction, and a steady flow of international demand through Gold & Diamond Park and the wider trade. What it does not have is a single published price for your watch — which is why two sellers with the same reference can walk away with very different sums.

This guide explains what actually determines the number you are offered.

What a buyer looks at, in order

The reference numberNot the model name. A Submariner 126610LV and a 126610LN are the same model and different watches commercially. The reference is the first thing any buyer asks for.
Condition of the caseSpecifically whether it has been polished. Sharp, original edges are worth real money; an over-polished case has lost metal permanently and cannot be undone.
Dial originalityA refinished or replaced dial is one of the largest single deductions, particularly on vintage pieces.
Box and papersA full set with the original card lifts the price. Its absence does not prevent a sale.
Current demandValues move. What a reference achieved last year is not what it achieves today, in either direction.

Four mistakes that cost sellers money

Polishing it firstThe most expensive mistake in this list. Sellers polish a watch hoping to present it well, and remove value that cannot be restored. Leave it exactly as it is.
Servicing it firstA full service can cost thousands and frequently adds less than it costs. Get a valuation before you spend anything.
Accepting the first numberValuations vary between buyers. It costs nothing to get more than one, and the spread on a high-value reference can be significant.
Throwing away the small partsSpare bracelet links, the original strap, the tool, the hang tags. On a Panthère or a Santos the missing links alone change the offer.

What to have ready

ReferenceUsually between the lugs, or on the papers and card.
SerialConfirms production year and helps establish the exact configuration.
PhotographsDial, caseback, clasp and any damage. Natural light, no filters.
PaperworkWarranty card, certificate of origin, and any service records.

Common questions

Do I need the box and papers to sell a watch in Dubai?

No. A full set achieves a higher price, but watches are bought and sold without box or papers every day.

Should I service my watch before selling it?

Usually not. A service often costs more than it adds to the offer. Ask for a valuation first.

Is it safe to sell a watch privately in Dubai?

Selling to an established buyer with a physical office is safer than meeting a private buyer with cash. Always transact somewhere with a business address.

How quickly can I get paid?

With an established buyer, the same day — a valuation, then payment by cash or bank transfer once the watch is authenticated.
